CHAP Reaches Approximately 400 Vulnerable Young People Through Community Health Outreach

Responding to an Urgent Community Need

In 2024, the Christian Health Assistance Programme (CHAP Incorporated) carried out a self-initiated community outreach initiative focused on young people affected by drug and substance abuse in Central Monrovia, Congo Town, and Paynesville.

The initiative was developed in response to the difficult conditions experienced by vulnerable young people living without adequate access to basic necessities and healthcare.

With approximately US$2,000 in funding, CHAP provided food and medical care to approximately 400 people living in extremely vulnerable conditions, including people staying in unfinished buildings and graveyards.

Putting Compassion Into Action

For CHAP, community health goes beyond providing medical services. It also means understanding the social circumstances that affect people’s wellbeing and responding to urgent needs with compassion and dignity.

The outreach demonstrated CHAP’s commitment to reaching communities that can easily be overlooked.

Rather than waiting for vulnerable people to find available services, CHAP brought assistance closer to those experiencing difficult circumstances.

Addressing Health and Social Challenges Together

Drug and substance abuse can affect individuals, families, and communities in complex ways. CHAP therefore promotes mental-health awareness, prevention education, community support, and greater involvement from families, churches, and community leaders.

The 2024 outreach was an important expression of this community-centered approach.

Looking Ahead

CHAP continues to seek partnerships and resources that can expand community health outreach, strengthen prevention initiatives, and support vulnerable populations across Liberia.

Healthy communities begin when people are seen, heard, and supported.
